Or to play softball, basketball or to swim? Being disabled in today’s society is difficult. Living independently and being gainfully employed presents challenges most of us take for granted. First, if you live in a group home, the federal government pays you less than $600.00 monthly. Then, it deducts any income you make on your own. Next, the group home takes a huge 70% of that income for putting a roof over your head. Now, here’s the biggest challenge of all. After budgeting for food, clothing, transportation, and other necessities, you have little or no money left for the social and recreational activities that enhance everyone’s quality of life.
Would you like to help?
Many people have asked, "What can I do?" Each situation is different. Individuals can volunteer their time as coaches, partner-athletes, chaperones, etc. In the case of City Councils, they can help by encouraging others to support RAD. We are also seeking sponsorships with organizations that value cause-related marketing opportunities. Of course, you can open your heart and your checkbook and make a generous donation. |
