RAD, Recreation and Athletics for the Disabled, is a Chandler-based non-profit corporation founded by parents of the disabled and other concerned citizens. As its Mission Statement declares, "RAD is dedicated to assisting any person who is disabled and wants to participate in recreation or athletic activities."
This includes bowling, softball, golf, track, tennis, social events, etc., as well as participation in annual Special Olympics competitions. RAD promotes and sponsors training, competition and recreational opportunities for individuals ages 6 to 96 with disabilities.
RAD’s first official fund raising activity was a bowl-a-thon held in West Phoenix, sponsored by the law firm of Lewis and Roca LLP. Donations from that event totaled over $3,600.00! Shortly thereafter, RAD presented the City of Chandler with a check that paid the entry fees for almost 100 disabled athletes who wanted to bowl in the City of Chandler Fall Bowling League.
Representatives of RAD present a check to Chandler Mayor Boyd Dunn at the Therapeutic Recreation Summer Bowling Banquet.
